JAYNE OF MEADOWHEAD (1982 - 2007)
Highland Chief x Senga of Currarie
Dam of many champion performance ponies
I decided that the time had come for Jayne of Meadowhead (stable name Senga) she had had cancer for several years and it was progressing and although she was very happy in herself, she couldn't always get out the way quickly when new and visiting mares arrived. I therefore took the decision to have her put down in May 2007. She followed one of her daughters out of the field up the lane (still uncatchable to the end !) into the barn. I loaded her up with another of her daughters who I was taking to some off grazing, and then carried on to the hunt kennels where I held her till the end. She was the dam of H.Jade, supreme WHP at Ponies UK Champ Show, H.Jasmine, H.Joliet (who I have kept) H.Jackson, and H.Jaguar (who is in Guernsey) and when she went to a friend of mine to start a highland stud there, she produced Stourton Japonica, S.Jasmine (who is back visiting Glenmuir Buzzard) and S.Jethro, all county show winners.
Her last foal was H.New Jersey who is now with Karen Knock for a future ridden/WHP pony.
CASSONARY OF WOODHAVEN (1978 - 2000)
Glentrool x Snowgoose of Woodhaven
Dam of many champions in-hand and ridden
It is with sadness that I have to report that our foundation mare, Cassonary of Woodhaven was put down in August 2000. She was 22 years old and had bred me many wonderful highland foals, all of which that were shown were many time champion. I kept her last foal Holmedown Cascade (by Johnsondene) who was born in June 1999. She has done me proud in the showring being shown four times as a yearling and taking 3 x 1st prizes and three championships. She continued her winning ways as a two and three year old, then went to be produced under saddle where, over the last few years she has consistently won in-hand and open ridden classes, including Olympia qualifiers. In 2006 she came back home to start life as a broodmare, and has now had her first foal by Glenmuir Buzzard, a yellow dun filly born on 25th April 2007.
I have also another of her daughters Holmedown Cobweb (MacGregor of Achnacarry) whom we sold as a four year old to Lambrigg Highland Pony Stud in Kendal. She has been consistently winning championships in-hand as a broodmare and we have kept H.Chicago, who is also won an overall championship as a yearling and took the championship at Royal Cornwall as a two year old (Cobweb went champion there with Chicago at foot).
Holmedown Jaguar (Jayne of Meadowhead x MacGregor of Achnacarry) is in Guernsey so Holmedown ponies are certainly getting about.
